Therapists and Self Care
What are people doing out there to take care of themselves? As a therapist and admitted over-achiever, I have to practice self care. In my case it’s usually around not internalizing too much pain from my clients and trying to keep balance in my life. Therapists can really benefit from making sure they take time out. Much of our work involves being present for others and it’s critical we don’t forget to be “present” for ourselves.
My self care is exercise and quality time with my family and friends. It’s also keeping people in my life who are consistent, supportive, open and non-toxic. I just don’t have the time or energy for the rest.
