Take Back Your Wedding by William J. Doherty, PhD and Elizabeth Doherty Thomas
“Planning a wedding is one of the hardest things you will do in your life, and one of the most thrilling when it all comes together. The hardest part is not what you might think when you get engaged—dealing with all the
logistics. The hardest part is dealing with the people.” - intro to Take Back Your Wedding
With all of the books out there on wedding planning itself, it’s wonderful to see one that addresses the relationship stressors that come up for so many brides and grooms. Whether it’s the in-laws, extended family, friends, the wedding party or the engaged couple themselves, this book by a father-daughter team (he a psychologist and she a savvy business woman with a terrific site helping people to “manage the couples and family dynamics around wedding planning”) gets into the nitty-gritty of how to handle the myriad of potential problems that come up for people in their various relationships – as well as provides helpful insight into the psychological dynamics of it all.
I highly recommend this book to couples gearing up for a wedding and are concerned about managing the people around their event – and making it the most stress-free and beautiful day that it should be.
